Biology : Shrub (1-)2-3 m tall, often mutti-stemmed, or small tree; stems red-brown, unusually thick; young branchlets rusty-red, spreading-hairy with conspicuous white lenticels and red glands, older ones with splitting epidermis to show reddish underlayer;
Ecology : Dry rocky hills and ridges on shallow gravelly basaltic soil, sometimes with Commiphora (stunted) mopane, and Combretum shrubs, often on old disturbed land; very localized, forming small clumps (an old introduction in SW Zimbabwe ?).
  SE Botswana, NE S. Africa.
