Ecology : Wooded grassland, deciduous woodland, on alluvial or colluvial soils on margins of rivers, streams, swamps, edges of river flood-plains and grassy valleys (dambos); occasionally on termite mounds in Brachystegia-Julbernardia woodland; etc...
  Variable in width and length of pods and number of leaf pinnae.
  A. xanthophloea has a similar powdery yellow underbark on twigs.
