Biology : Erect pyrophytic herb with several stems 3-30 cm tall, flowering when quite leafless, arising from slender underground rhizomes 1-1,5 mm thick (sometimes swollen into a small knot at ground level);
Ecology : Uapaca woodland; regularly burnt grassland; miombo woodland; savanna with Andropogon; wooded savanna; 900-2300 m alt.
  Not in Cameroon (= V. gracilis ).
