Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Deciduous tree to 9-18 m, with bole free to 9 m height; crown large with beautiful mauve flowers, when the tree is almost leafless.
Ecology : Mixed deciduous forest; savanna, often by streams; also commonly planted in villages (and probably dispersed sonthwards to Angola by man).
  Bioco/Fernando Poo; probably introduced in São Tomé. Zaire?
  Confused with Millettia griffoniana.
