Biology : Evergreen tree 15-30(-50) m; trunk straight, clean, cylindrical, to 25 m long and to 1,2 m Ø, 4,5 m in girth; base sometimes swollen for the first 1-1,2 m, with very low, thick root swellings;
Ecology : Rocky granite slopes and hollows in high forest; flat valleys, slowly rolling country; with Tarrietia utilis, Lophira alata, Parinari excelsa, Brachystegia leonensis; 80-350 m alt.
  The tree grows scattered throughout the evergreen forest, often in the single-dominant forests of Tetraberlinia tubmaniana.
