Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Slightly woody herb, erect or straggling, 25-60 cm tall; stems glabrous, straw-coloured.
Ecology : Humid meadow; characteristic componant of the vegetation supported by the thin peaty soils over surface lateritic hardpans; even in the wetter forest area on the coast in Sierra Leone.
  Very beautiful plant with bright yellow flowers 1 cm long, in dense oblong scorpioid strobiles 1-6 cm long and hidden by large imbricate reticulate orbicular-reniform bracts ±1,5 cm broad, 1-15 cm long, bright-red or violaceous.
