Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Deciduous rather slender tree (3-)6-15 m tall; bark grey to greyish-brown, becoming fissured, rather rough and flaking; young branchlets pubescent to tomentellous, glabrescent; sladh pale brown to cream or white with red sticky exudate.
Ecology : Extending from coastal bushland and thicket to wooded grassland and a variety of deciduous woodland, bushland and thicket types, derived savanna and bushlands, inland; also in degraded montane scrub; 0-1500 m alt.
  Very variable species, in shape and hairiness of leaves and width of fruit.
  S. Africa.
  Distinctions from P. eriocalyx not always clear.
