Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Deciduous tree to over 40 m; bole cylindrical, to 75 cm Ø, c. 20 m to lowest branching; buttresses at base to 3 m high.
Ecology : Rain-forest with Lophira, Sacoglottis; codominant in groves of ectomycorrhizal Caesalpiniceae; on sandy well-drained acid soils with low phosphorous availability; 1-400 m alt.
  Plants have very poor regeneration.
