Biology : Rather succulent perennial herb 30-70(-80) cm tall; stems simple or branched, often forming flat-topped or rounded plants, occasionally rooting at lower nodes.
Ecology : Damp, often shaded places; forest, riverine thickets, river margins, gullies, damp rocky places; often in large colonies; 0- 1800 m alt. Extremely variable. Cultivated (under the names I. sultani, I. holstii).
