Ecology : (Dry) evergreen forest and thickets; riverine forest; deciduous woodland (on termite mounds); grasslands; sometimes in secondary communities; deciduous forest edges; Podocarpus latifolius forest. 1000( ?and less)-2290 m alt.
  Related to E. xylocarpum (Vent.) DC. from Central America, sharing dioecious flowers with petaloid staminodes.E. kamerunense may well be regarded as a different, good species; more material and fieldwork are needed.
