Biology : Shrub or liane, to at least 3m tall, glabrous;stems markedly quadrangular,pale brown to purplish-brown and smooth at first,becoming grey-brown to yellow-brown and 4-lined or terete,without or with numerous small scarcely prominent lenticels.
Ecology : Mixed woodland and thicket; Brachystegia or mixed damp woodland.
  to 700 m alt. Closely related to S. calypso DC. from NE Madagascar; also near S. congolensis.
