Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Tree to 12 m, or shrub to 5 m tall, often suckering; branches glabrous, with spots of irregular corky lenticels; stipules asymmetric, 3-4 cm long; inflorescence conical, glabrous, 30 cm long, 35 cm wide.
Ecology : Rain-forest in mountains; on the limit between grassland and forest; 900-1000 (-1500) m alt.
  Sometimes cultivated as a hedge for enclosures.
