Biology : Shrub 1-3 m or tree 6-12(-21) m tall, usually of gnarled appearence, with short twisted bole and long horizontal or pendulous branches, cylindrical or somewhat 3-angular, becoming virgate; bark reticulate; fruits edible.
Ecology : Riverine woodland or on rocky outcrops away from water; riverine forest or thicket; river banks in dry hilly areas; 0-1900 m alt. Exceptionally variable species. Botswana, S. Africa, Caprivi Strip.
