Ecology : Forest floor; sometimes matting the sandy soil on waysides; savanna; humid and shady places; fallow land; to 1700 m alt.
  Vollesen (Fl. Eth. & Erit. 2(2): 251) in 1995 estimates that the true S. veronicifolia does not occur in Africa. However, S. pilosa Retz. (with syn. S. veronicifolia Lam.) is cited from Mt. Cameroon by Cable & Cheek, Pl. Mt. Cameroon: 80, 1998
