Biology : Shrub or small tree to 10 m, crooked in habit, with spreading crown; bark dark grey, deeply fissured; leaves clustered near ends of branchlets, turning orange and red in autumn.

Ecology : Brachystegia deciduous woodland, Loudetia wooded grassland, rocky Protea bushland; 900-2400 m alt. Very variable species with respect to leaf width and pubescence;
  taxonomic status of variants uncertain.
