Ecology : Open ground in Juniperus belt; red soil over secondary limestone; almost bare limestone; on broken cliffs near the sea; sandy calcareous soil; sometimes climbing on Acacia or Euphorbia; 15-2000 m alt.
  Deserts of SE Mediterranean; Socotra and through the Orient to W Pakistan.
