Ecology : Moist bamboo thicket; moor, moor-grassland, on damp ground, often in bogs; wet peaty alpine soils; moist Dendrosenecio forest; along streams; forming carpeting masses; one of the most importants of the ericaceous and alpine belts; 2400-4350 m. alt.
  Very variable species.
