Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Subshrub 20-45-100 cm tall, glaucous, strongly aromatic; leaves alternate, 2(-3)-pinnate; flowers yellow, bisexual, 5-merous, in terminal bracteate cymes, petals ciliate-fringed; capsule opening apically.
Ecology : Widely cultivated as a culinary herb in the Ethiopian highlands above 1500 m alt. – Also recorded in old fields from Angola (Mossamedes) by Welwitsch (Hiern. Cat. 1: 111, 1896), as R. graveolens.
  Often misnamed as R. graveolens L.
  Native of the Mediterranean or Middle East. Naturalized (and cultivated) in the Cape Verde Isl.; Oman.
