Biology : Perennial ± glaucous herb with a thick woody caudex sometimes with rhizomes, and crowned with a tuft of stems, sparingly to well branched, leafy, strongly ribbed, 10-120 cm tall, ribs extended into midribs of leaves and bracts;[…]

Ecology : Grassland, often in areas subject to fires; open grassy woodland; on a variety of soils incl. Serpentine.
  Variable in habit: stems short, sparingly branched after fire, taller and well branched when unburnt. Also variable in length of bracts.
  250-2350 m alt. Closely related to T. schweinfurthii, T. mukense, but distinguished by the more cymose structure of the inflorescences.
