Biology : Erect shrub 2-3 m tall, or tree to 10 m, with a very bitter taste; leaves imparipinnate, rhachis winged, leaflets 5; flowers bright red outside, white inside, c. 3,5 cm long, bisexual, in 10-25 cm long racemes; drupe c. 1,5 cm long, purple-black.
Ecology : Native of Brazil. Cultivated in tropical Africa.
