  – Habenaria procera, Scleria melanotricha, Utricularia andongensis are character species of the Sclerio melanotrichae-Habenarietalia procerae plant community (Parmentier & Müller in Phytocoenologia 36: 573-581, 2006; also ibid.: 547-564),described from West and Atlantic Central Africa. Forming xeric mats and occurring in herbaceous fringes on inselbergs. 3 varieties have been recognised (but there is much overlap between them), viz. var. procera with floral bracts to 35 mm long, pedicel 8-15 mm; var. gabonensis with floral bracts to 20 mm long, pedicel 20-35 mm, in W part of range; var. psiloceras with spur 130-160 mm long, in Angola-Zambia; H. ochyrae, terrestrial, was described from SW Congo-Brazzaville, Bouenza Falls (3°53’Sx13°42’E), on a differing flower lip structure; its bracts are up to 20 mm long, pedicel and ovary 50 mm, spur 85-90 mm long.
