Biologie : Perennial herb to 45-55 cm tall; leaves several, crowded in basal fan, sword-shaped, 1/2-2/3 as long as stem, 3-6 mm wide; stem compressed, 2-winged, 4-5 mm wide, in the upper fourth bearing 1-2 short leaves, usually branched at these axils; flower clusters 1-5; flowers blue; capsule ovoid-oblong, 9-12 mm long, on pedicels 4-25 mm long, rarely nearly sessile.
Ecologie : Forests; forest margins and clearings; usually in light shade; occasionally in open wet grassland; 1800-3500 m alt.
  Related to A. abyssinica, but “the taxonomy of the A. alata species group is unsettled” (Fl. Trop. E. Afr., Irid., l.c.). The two species are sometimes regarded as conspecific.
  In Ethiopia ? (not in Fl. Eth. & Eritrea 6, 1997).
