Biologie : Terrestrial herb 20-40 cm tall; basal leaves produced after anthesis, grass-like, stiff, 30x0,1-0,2 cm; cauline leaves few, sheathing, 2-3 cm long; inflorescence 4-13 cm long, laxly 2-10-flowered; flowers white (rarely) to blue or dark mauve, facing upwards; bracts scarious, c. 10 mm long; pedicel and ovary 10-17 mm long; dorsal sepal hood-like, acuminate, 10-12x8 mm, with cylindrical spur 2-5 mm long; lateral sepals spreading, ovate, 10-12 mm long; petals inside hood, 14x4 mm, with an ovate basal anticous lobe, and limb lorate below, then curving up, widened and unequally 2-lobed at apex with anterior lobe longer than the posterior; lip narrowly ovate, 11-13x4 mm, margins entire to shallowly fimbriate.
Ecologie : Grassland, appearing soon after fire; 2000-2350 m alt.
  Superficially resembling D. baurii, but flowers smaller and flowering earlier. Geographical areas of both species overlapping.
  Endemic to the Nyika Plateau area.
