Biologie : Herb often semi-erect to 1,2 m tall, profusely branched; aerial roots few or absent from the upper internodes; leaf petiole 3-7 cm long, 3/4 sheathed; blade broadly ovate to elliptic, 10-20x3-10 cm, base shortly cuneate, apex acuminate, venation rather prominent, reticulate (on dry specimens); peduncles 2-3; spathe 3-4 cm long, very variable in colour; spadix well exserted, also very variable in colour; berries 1,2x0,8 cm, medium green when immature, becoming red, orange.
Ecologie : Riverine forest; river banks above flood-level, occasional; swamp; marsh; secondary forest, sandy soil; banks of seasonal stream in savanna; thicket by dam; fringing woodland; moist places; on rocks; transitional forest with Uapaca, Antidesma, Garcinia, Pterocarpus, Erythrophleum; sometimes gregarious or locally abundant; farms; 0-650 m alt.
