Biologie : Epiphytic, rarely lithophytic herb to 12 cm tall, growing in clumps; pseudobulbs ovoid, clustered, 1-2,5x0,5-1,2 cm; leaves 2-3, oblong, 5-10,5x0,7-2 cm, dark green, edges sometimes purple; inflorescence erect, simple, 2-8-flowered, longer than leaves; peduncle 3-5 cm long; flowers large, variable in colour; yellow, green, lip white, side lobes of lip with red veins, pubescent outside, strongly scented; bracts ovate, pubescent, 5-9x4-5 mm; pedicel and ovary 5(-11) mm long, pubescent; dorsal sepal ovate, 8-13x4-7 mm; laterals triangular, 8-16x7-10 mm; mentum (spur) conical, 7-9 mm long; petals oblanceolate, 7-9x2-3 mm; lip 8-12x6-9 mm, claw broad and short, strongly recurved, fleshy, hard to flatten; midlobe fleshy, oblong, 4-5x3-5 mm; side lobes erect, rounded, 2-3 mm wide, with a conical callus between them.
Ecologie : Forest; cool forest in rather dry areas; riverine forest; edges of remnant forest patches; Brachystegia woodland; high rainfall woodland; on hills regularly cloud covered; on small trees or lower branches of trees; common with Usnea on branches of (fallen) trees; on rocks; 1100-2700(-3000) m alt.
  Very variable in flower colour (Fl. Trop. E. Afr., Orchid. 2: 395, 1984).
  Very similar to P. sandersonii (which has, however, red spots on lip and lacks red veins on side lobes).
