Note: Kränzlin published B. hirsutissimum twice, viz. in 1912 and 1914 (type Ledermann 6328, collected in 1909), respectively. Vermeulen, 1987 (p. 86), considered both as synonyms of B. comatum var. comatum. The two collections were made in W Cameroon: N° 1214 at Semukima (4°55’Nx9°57’E); N° 6328 at Ndonge (4°53’Nx9°53’E), in mist forest on trees with Usnea and Roccella at 1200-1500 m alt. The two Ledermann collections are treted as B. comatum var. comatum by Szlachetko & Mytnik-Ejsmont, Orchid.W.- C. Afr. 2: 73, 2015.
We have compared the original descriptions of both species, but it is very difficult to judge from these which the differences are. We have followed the World Checklist of Selected Plant Families, Orchidaceae, Roy. Bot. Gard., Kew, in treating B. hirsutissimum Kraenzl. 1912 as a distinct entity.
  Cultivated ground with oil palms.
