Terrestrial herb, stout, glabrous, 40-100 cm tall; tubers ± ellipsoid, 2-5,5x0,6-2,2 cm; sterile shoot c. 7 cm tall, 3-4-leaved, the lowermost 1-2 leaves sheathing, upper leaves lanceolate, 12-27x3-6 cm; flowering stem with 10-12 sheathing leaves 6-10x2-3 cm; inflorescence cylindrical, 16-45x2,5-3,5 cm, loosely many-flowered; flowers sessile, lilac or green and whitish tinged red-purple; bracts leafy, lanceolate, 6-30x7 mm, reflexed; ovary 6-10 mm long; sepals and petals decurved; sepals oblanceolate, c. 5x1-2 mm, the dorsal narrower than laterals, ciliolate; petals linear, 4-5 mm long, ciliolate; lip thick, ellipsoid, hooded, 5-7 mm long, mouth contracted; spurs filiform, 8-11 mm long, “flying outwards and upwards”, like a snail’s horns. |
