How to use this database

This screen provides access to images and information on the Hedwig specimens in the Hedwig-Schwägrichen herbarium in G.



Enter a scientific name, or part of a scientific name, into one of the boxes (basionym or current name) to obtain either a list of all names found based on your search, or the link to the information corresponding to the entered name. It is recommended to search this database by the basionym.



Examples are:

  • Enter ‘Bry’ (list of all names starting with Bry)
  • Enter ‘Bryum’ (list of all names starting with Bryum)
  • Enter ‘Bryum argenteum’ (link to information on the name)

Information on Bryum argenteum can also be found by entering ‘Bryum arg’ for example.



This database provides the following information:

  • Basionym : basionym publication information
  • Protologue : a copy of the basionym protologue
  • Specimen in G : indication if specimen is present in G
  • Label information : a copy of the specimen label (NB: all information indicated within square brackets is in the hand of Schwägrichen)
  • Typification : status of typification of name (lectotype, holotype, neotype). Use of ‘Typus’ indicates that the material has not been published as specifically designated.
  • Publication : author/s, year and page of publication of the type designation and indication of designation (LT = lectotype, HT = holotype, NT = neotype, etc.). The location of a typified specimen is indicated using the standard herbarium abbreviation (BM, G, S). Literature used is found under choice ‘Bibliography.’
