The translation and massive distribution of the Bible in the colonial world at the end of the 19th century was one of the Evangelical missions’ main activities. In 1838 Henry Nott, an English missionary sent to Polynesia by the London Missionary Society, did the first translation of the Bible into Tahitian. This basketwork bag contains the bound volume TE PARAU A TE ATUA (the word of God). It was woven to be easy to carry thanks to two straps used as handles.
