A piece of copper jewellery of the akure type, worn around the neck mostly by women and indicating their royal or initiated status. In Central Africa, the metal ornament worn on the body permanently was often made as a form of protection, thus becoming an essential element for the person to whom it belonged. The fact that this piece is damaged and broken is the visible material mark of the violence involved in its removal, imposed by missions in the colonial period. B. Sigam
