This undated map goes back to the 19th century and presents the state of colonial penetration in Zambia where the Paris Mission had established a series of stations in the Zambezi basin. The only elements represented are routes (by rail, on foot or by river) and places where Europeans were present. This drawing’s utilitarian ambition is confirmed by the small-scale map at the top right, which follows the same principle and also excludes any topographic layout. F. Rossinelli
