Biology : (Annual or) perennial herb; stems inflated when submerged, floating or creeping and branching below, usually erect and scarcely branching above, to 40 cm long but usually less.
Ecology : Very variable species; firsthand field experience or cultivation experiments needed. Aquatic or amphibious; seasonally flooded pools in riverbeds, savanna, mud; 850-2100 m alt. Botswana, Namibia, S. Africa; Madagascar.
