Biology : Large, very stout, perennial herb, to 4 m; stems annual to 3 cm adventitious roots thickening later.
Ecology : Grassland, margin of rain-forest and secondary bushland, fallow fields, cultivation, waste places along water; pioneer; (400-)750-3300 m alt. Sudan: only Jebel Marra and Imatong Mts. S. Africa; Madagascar.
