Ecology : Common in clearings of rain-forest and dry evergreen forest,along forest edges,riverine or ravine forests;sometimes climbing on isolated trees left in farmland;Podocarpus latifolius,Dombeya open forest;Podocarpus latifolius-Syzygium forest;bamboo.
  1000-2950 m alt. Distinctive by the 4-lobed female perianth (very unequal, 2 outer short + 2 inner subcircular, longer) but often confused with U. flamigniana
  According to Burkill, Useful pl. W. trop. Afr., ed. 2, 5: 242, 2000, reported from Guinea-Bissau (identification correct?, or introduced?; the bark yields a strong fibre).
