Biology : Perennial or rarely annual, diffusely prostrate or somewhat ascending herb with many stems to 30 cm long; from a somewhat woody rootstock.

Ecology : Open areas of gypsaceous limestone and rocky plateau; 714 m alt. (Somalia); in this country the fruit is smaller (±1,2 cm ) with shorter lateral spines ±3 mm long (not in Fl. Somalia). Closely allied to T. terrestris.
  Arabia, Afghanistan, India (Rajasthan).
