Biology : Perennial twiner with slender sparsely to densely pubescent stems 2-4 m long.
Ecology : Woodland on hillsides; Khaya-Parkia riverine association; often on termite mounds; evergreen shrub clumps; coastal thicket and dune vegetation of Mimusops, Ziziphus, Cardiogyne, Brachylaena, etc.; grassland; 0-1410 m alt.
  S. Africa. Introduced into Jamaica and Puerto Rico. - The type specimen (from seed grown in Vienna, Austria) was erroneously believed to originate from the Carribean.
