Biology : Shrub or more commonly a low-branched small to large tree 4-30 m tall, with clear bole 10-60 cm Ø and a spreading rounded crown; trunk sometimes spiny.

Ecology : Evergreen forest, mostly at edges, along rivers or in secondary formations, also in associated bushland and thickets; rain-forest with Albizia, Macaranga, Croton, Ocotea; often together with Macaranga kilimandscharica, etc..
