Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Tree, deciduous or semi-deciduous, to 20(-25) m, with a spreading rounded crown and a fluted trunk to 1,3 m; rarely a low shrub to 2 m tall.

Ecology : Forest; dry open woodland; or bush; along rivers, near springs and around pans; sometimes on seasonally waterlogged flood-plains; mixed coastal, evergreen forest; 1-1000 m alt. (-500 m for subsp. acuta). (see more in the book)
  Intermediate specimens B. maughamii – B. wilsoniana occur in Kenya and Tanzania (Sands, o.c.: 18-19).
