Biology : Subligneous climber, 6-20 m; stem to 10 cm ?at base; sterile tendrils simple or 3-fid, 10-25 cm long.
Ecology : Moist and gallery forest, forest edges, scrub; often in secondary vegetation; lava and heavy clay soil, basalt; 0-2500 m alt. Comprises 3 subspp.: bequaertii, macranthera de Wilde, occidentalis de Wilde
