Biology : Terrestrial herb 15-50 cm tall; tubers globular, 1-2 cm Ø, villous; cauline leaves 2-4, erect, ± conduplicate, linear, acute, 6-20x0,5-1,5 cm, ribs prominent; inflorescence capitate, 1,5-2,5 cm long, 1-3 cm Ø, 5-25-flowered; flowers white to cream, often purple-spotted; sepals ovate-lanceolate, 5-8x2-4 mm; petals as long, narrowly oblong, spreading fan-like; lip erect, 0,8-1,3 mm long; spur cylindrical, 3,5-6 mm long, parallel to ovary.
Ecology : (Damp) grassland, among rocks; streambanks; seepage areas; 1300-2500 m alt.
  S. Africa, Lesotho.
  Subsp. major (Bolus) H. P. Linder (bas.: B. galpinii var. majus Bolus; syn.: B. leucantha Schltr.); icon.: Linder, 1981: 42, with larger flowers, in S. Africa, Lesotho, at higher altitudes.
