Biology : Shrub to 1 m tall with rhizome (geoxylic suffrutex, see Vollesen, Nord. J. Bot. 1: 735-740, 1981); shoots erect, ±branched, often cespitose, with epidermis exfoliating in papyraceous strips; flowering before the leaves.
Ecology : Open forest; wooded savanna; grassy savanna; sandy or rocky soils; laterite; 480-1800 m alt.
