Ecology : Many habitats; mostly in rough (overgrazed) grassland with Acacia scrub and on disturbed and stony ground; not rarely near rivers or waterholes; common on sandy loam or alluvium, but also on volcanic soils and heavy black soils; 100-1500 m alt.
