Biology : Terrestrial herb 10-44 cm tall; tuber ovoid-globose, 1,5-3x1-3 cm, 4-7-noded; leaf 1 (after flowering), erect, large, ovate, 6-16x3,5-11 cm, glabrous, pleated, base attenuate, veins 6-10; petiole 5,5-17 cm long; scape (1-)2-3-flowered; flowers large, thick-textured, greenish-yellow (lip white), veined purple, facing the same way, set close together, faintly vanilla-scented; bracts linear, 22-31 mm long; sepals and petals linear-lanceolate, 25-45x4-7 mm; lip ovate, 19-40x22-31 mm, 3-lobed, with 2 parallel fleshy pubescent ridges running down the basal half; side lobes oblong, 20 mm wide, enclosing column; midlobe 9-13 mm wide; fruit 14-19x12 mm.
Ecology : Brachystegia woodland, deciduous woodland; riverine forest; grassland; plantations of pine, cypress, Gmelina; 480-2200 m alt.
  Pollinated by wasps. Quotation from Centr. Aric. Rep. is probably erroneous (See above). Reference to Chad, Télé (specim. Chevalier 8412) corresponds to NW- Centr. Afr.Rep.; the specimen probably belongs to N. bicarinata.
