Biology : Tree 25-60 m, with straight trunk to 8 m in girth and with horizontal main branches; buttressed; bark smooth, often with conical bosses or spines.

Ecology : Lowland evergreen forest, forest clearings; rain-forest with Chrysophyllum, Cola gigantea, Erythrophleum, Parinari excelsa, etc.; riverine and ground-water forest; also planted (for kapok); 1-1200 (-2250 where planted) m alt. Not mapped.
