Biology : Deciduous tree (or shrub) 4-10 m; bark light brown, rough, longitudinally fissured; branchlets hanging.

Ecology : In Ethiopia (Shawa region) dominant on recent lava flows; evergreen bushland or deciduous woodland, often on steep rocky slopes; hilly ground with Juniperus procera; 1100-2600 m alt.
  Doubtfully distinct from P. chinensis from Afghanistan in the west to China in the east and the Philippines in the south.
