Biologie : Epiphytic, rarely lithophytic herb 35-50 cm tall, often flowering after its leaves have dropped; pseudobulbs closely set, forming chains, asymmetric cylindric-conical, 1-4x0,5-1,3 cm; leaves 2-3, linear, 5-25x0,3-1,2 cm; inflorescence simple or paniculate 7-48 cm long, with to 7 short branches, each 2-5 flowered; peduncle 5-23 cm long with flattened acute sheaths; rachis densely pubescent; flowers straw-coloured to light brown, pubescent outside; bracts lanceolate, 3-7 mm long; pedicel and ovary 5-10 mm long, densely pubescent; dorsal sepal lanceolate, 6-10x2-5 mm; laterals triangular, c. 8-12x5 mm; mentum (spur) incurving, cylindric-conical, c. 4 mm high; petals oblanceolate, c. 6-8x2 mm; lip recurved, shortly clawed, 3-lobed in middle, ovate, 7-9x5-6 mm, with an elongated brown callus with clavate hairs between side lobes which are erect and clavate-hairy in front; midlobe recurved, ovate, c. 3-4x3 mm, densely clavate-hairy in centre, margins undulate.
Ecologie : Dry open forest; high rainfall Brachystegia woodland; forest; riverine forest (rarely); on, e.g. Brachystegia; occasionally on rocks; 1000-2000 m alt.
  Variable in size and shape of inflorescence: plants from S Kenya –N Tanzania are much smaller.
  Has often been misidentified as P. shega, P. isochiloides. Seeds have been used in symbyotic germination experiments (Ochora & al. in Syst. Geogr. Pl. 71: 587, 2002).
