Biologie : Terrestrial herb 5-13 cm tall; tuber subspherical-ovoid, 0,4-1,5x0,9-1,7 cm; leaf 1 (after flowering), horizontal (not prostrate), held a few cm above ground, star-shaped, 7-11-lobed (7-11-veined), 3-13 cm wide, sparsely short-hairy above; petiole 2-9 cm long; scape 1-flowered, lengthening to 17-27 cm when fruiting; flower small, ± horizontal, 25-40 mm Ø, greenish brown reddish veined, lip pink with yellow midline; bract 1, linear, 7-15 mm long; sepals and petals spreading, ligulate, 12-22x2-5mm; lip oblong, 10-17x4-7 mm, very obscurely 3-lobed, horizontal, non trumpet-shaped, tightly clasping column, margins entire, apical part with central ridge; fruit 14 mm long.
Ecologie : Rain-forest with Cynometra hankei, Terminalia ivorensis, or Chrysophyllum albidum, Cola gigantea, Erythrophleum suaveolens, Alstonia boonei, Parinari excelsa, Milicia excelsa; gallery forest in loamy soil; dense and humid forest; forest edge; sometimes secondary forest and tree savanna; 170-1600 m alt.
  According to Fischer & al., Orchids Rwanda : 425, 2010, the record for Virunga Volcanoes is highly improbable.
