Destiné à contenir des boissons fermentées, ce bol de type « he » était utilisé au cours des sacrifices aux esprits des ancêtres ou pour accompagner un défunt dans sa tombe.
Sa structure à double coque - dont l’une ajourée et ornée de serpents - constitue une prouesse technique remarquable.
On n’en connaît qu’un seul autre exemple : un trépied de type « ding », découvert dans une tombe en Chine en 1980.
