L’école Shingon utilise deux schémas de méditation : les « Mandalas des Deux mondes ».
Celui du Monde du Diamant figure le cheminement vers l’éveil et comprend neuf mandalas, qui s’enchaînent comme un serpentin, en descendant à partir de celui du centre et en suivant dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre.
