The forme of prayers n'est pas une traduction anglaise de La forme des prieres ecclesiastiques, mais c'est le manuel liturgique composé à Francfort au début de 1555 par un groupe d'exilés anglais qui voulaient dépasser le Prayer Book. Les influences de la liturgie genevoise y sont fortes. La préface datée de Genève le 10 février 1556 est de William Whittingham. Les psaumes sont en patie de Thomas Sternhold et en partie de John Hopkins. La traduction anglaise du Catéchisme de William Huycke avait paru à Londres en 1550.
Publication en trois parties avec trois titres : forme des prières, psautier, catéchisme. Ces parties forment un tout en raison de la table au verso du titre, de la liste unique d’errata.
Le lien entre la première et la seconde partie est renforcée du fait que la page de titre de la seconde est imprimée sur le dernier feuillet de la première. En outre la seconde partie a été la dernière imprimée puisqu'elle se termine par les errata de l'ensemble du volume.
